The Pearl is now air conditioned. They serve Sunday Brunch 10 am – 2 pm and offer flights of mimosas with four flavors. For now they are not roasting a pig on weekends but are considering leasing that area out or returning that feature. For Happy Hour they serve $3 pints 11 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday. They are located next to Snoopy’s.
Merida’s Tapas & Cantina has a Tuesday Special Shrimp boil with a pound of shrimp with sausage, potatoes, corn and mushrooms for $27. Also, on the special are $2 pints of Ultra, Miller, Landshark and Dos Equis. On Margarita Mondays you can choose blueberry, strawberry, watermelon and coconut for $7 or the house Margarita for $3. I also discovered this week that I can sit outside on the deck and access the restroom without entering the restaurant. They have 11 boat slips with calm waters making it an easy nautical arrival.
Island Market IGA now has turkey legs for $7. They are located near the entrance on the heater where the rotisserie chickens are.
The preliminary work has begun for the renovation of the seawall with surveys being done. They also need to determine what is going on underneath the seawall. This data will then be analyzed by engineers so it is not something that will happen overnight. The seawall will not just be renovated but will also be enhanced. There is discussion on having lighting and shade structures.
To get to Sonic and avoid the long Starbucks line this summer turn down Marina Park which is the street near Best Western.

Agave Beach Boutique has changed ownership and Kelly Clark has taken over. During the transition the inventory has diminished some but more and more boxes are arriving daily with exciting new fashion items. Jordan will remain the store manager. The boutique is located next to Black Sheep Bistro.
Captain’s Diner has installed two Samsung Air Con 360 cassettes to their ceiling and the restaurant now is much cooler. They have lowered some of their prices and now Landshark drafts are $2.75, tea and soft drinks $2.95.. Their entrees are huge and definitely shareable with two sides plus soup or salad.
Calypso Drive & Dive has the largest wine selection on the Island with 39 wines and seven sparkling. They open for now at 11 am or 2 pm on weekdays depending on staffing and 11 am on weekends and are closed Mondays. They are located at the old Sonic.
The Island Market has dropped the IGA branding. They are an independent, locally owned family business that went through a lot to bring a grocery store to the Island. I really appreciate it having lived here so many years without one.
The Packery Channel Nature Park is a 38-acre park with two kayak/canoe launches, a birding boardwalk, and fishing all along the shoreline. There is a parking lot, but overnight parking is not allowed.
The Firefly has opened this week at the Gabe Lozano Golf Course. It is a lighted 9 hole course with par 3’s and three par 4’s. First tee time is at 7 am and the cost is $31 but changes to $34 at 6 pm. Last tee time is 11 pm. There is a beer/beverage permanent cart that is accessible at hole 3 and 6.
Gallery 41Water’s Edge Grill has Sunday Brunch with seatings at 11 am and 1:30 pm. They offer champagne drink specials and limitless trips to the five buffet stations. They serve prime rib, smoked salmon, stuffed chicken, gourmet omelettes, deluxe waffle bar and more. The price is $59 and $19 for age 12 and under. Reservations are recommended. It is located inside the Art Center of Corpus Christi and opened in January.
Celsita’s serves breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays 9 – 11 am with some limited American items like oatmeal and fruit pancakes. They are also now serving frozen Margaritas. They are closed on Mondays. They are located next to the Island Market

Real Life Church will be moving into the corner unit next to the old Scuttlebutt’s in Loma Alta Plaza. They currently have services at Island in the Son on Highway 361. They are waiting for permitting and hope to open in the new location in the fall. They will eventually locate permanently in the Lighthouse Center that will be built on SPID near the Best Western.
I was checking the map of the Island wetlands and there is a large area on at the corner of Windward Drive and Whitecap that extends to the Boathouse Bar. That means there will be no development there.
