The road work on the frontage road between Commodores and Jackfish was originally supposed to take eight months but the business owners along that road have been told that things are moving ahead of schedule. Completion now is expected to be 30 – 60 days sooner which puts the completed date around February or March. I spoke to a couple of the businesses and they said they were affected for a couple of weeks until the locals figured out how to work around it.
Third Coast Theater in Port A will feature Larry Joe Taylor on Friday, November 24th and Max & Heather Stalling on November 25th both at 8 pm. Buy tickets early – they go fast.
Mount SPEEDY activity has stopped. Work will start after completion of the water exchange bridge. All the new locations have a car wash so whenever they do build you can expect one here. Speedy Stop is what is going in next to the American Bank.

The 2nd Annual Marker 37 Kids Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, September 23rd with registration online Each kid will be provided a rod and tackle and they will be fishing off the pier that is normally closed to fishing. The event benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities South Texas.
Gulfstream Condos has added a live stream camera so you can check out the surf, tide level and beach action. Go to gulfstreamcondos.com/live/ It is very clear and is as if you are looking at the beach from one of their balconies. In fact, I saw a friend of mine doing his morning seawall walk.
The 34th Annual Taste of the Island will be held on Wednesday, October 18th at Marker 37 Marina. For the first number of years it was at the Padre Isle Country Club, then Schlitterbahn, then Wave Resort, then Port Royal and lastly Marker 37.
Sunset Sounds at Roberts Point Park monthly free concert will feature Jimmy & Garret on Friday, September 25th 7 – 9 pm. Bring your chair and cooler.
The two story building under construction with steel beams next to Pelican Plaza will be home to Dr. Mario Martinez Medical Clinic. It should be completed by May.
