Bob Hall Pier Mikel May’s owner May Nardone is closing on the JB Bakery property plus the lot behind it today. It is the blue building next to the Rock & Roll Sushi strip center. It will become a tapas restaurant but there is a lot of work to be done. It will be accessible by water and plenty of parking. More details to come.
Ace Hardware now carries Polywood furniture and you can order any style and color from the catalog. Of course, you can get any at the store the same day. The white counter height chairs I saw there were $448 each which is a lot less than I have seen them elsewhere. The turquoise bistro table was $484. I can attest to the quality and durability of this furniture because I have had my balcony polywood chairs and table for over 20 years. If you order the items it takes 2 – 6 weeks to come in.
Magnolia Grace Gelato serve cookie sandwiches with your choice of gelato or you can have a scoop on a fudge brownie. I recently enjoyed combining the sweet cream flavor with the blood orange which taste like a dreamsicle, my favorite childhood ice cream bar. Also cheesecake combined with strawberry is a good one. They have not been selling panini sandwiches during the summer but plan to start again in the fall. Owner Mary K. now has her daughter Elizabeth working with her. They are located near Scuttlebutt’s and open daily 2 pm -midnight.
A two story new pavilion will be built next to the present Briscoe King Pavilion with $4 million of TIRZ funds. The current pavilion being used has had 70 events so far this year including 17 weddings.
Bien Mérité Bakery is a quaint French breakfast/pastry spot that is pink inside and out which makes it a good time to visit during this Barbie phase. Padre Pizzeria pizza crust sandwiches are made with very thin and crispy crusts. I had the Italian and I am so glad I decided to check out this type of sandwich. I had it with a side of marinara for dipping and to me that made it even better. It comes with chips and is big enough to share especially if you ate some of those delicious bread slices with olive oil dip that they give to you while you wait.
The old Country Store blue building on SPID currently has no for sale sign but that is because they are changing sales agents. The sale of the property is taking so long not because it is not priced right but because currently buildings for restaurants just aren’t selling. High interest rates and staffing issues to run a restaurant are the problem. The Rasheeds have the 1.7 acre property between it and Angry Marlin also for sale for $2,275,000.
The Gaff in Port A will not have any belt sander races until September 9th to work on the track. Going for the “World Famous” Gaffer pizza is worth the trip though.
Island Timeline
The Yellow Pelican Art Gallery was the first art gallery on the Island and opened in 2004. It was located in the Day & Night Boardwalk center closest strip to the big bridge. I can no longer say just bridge since we now have two on SPID.
